I never believe 1-star reviews. All of them here appear to be copied-and-pasted boilerplate, which make them even more suspicious. I generally don't believe 5-star reviews either, which is why I gave Guadalajara's 4. However, I could find no fault with the service or the food quality or the atmosphere. It was an excellent experience.
Great food, great service I've eaten there several times and was very pleased.Food is authentic. Can't say enough good things about the restaurant. If you like Mexican food this is the place to try.
So disappointed in our dining experience at Guadalajara in Rapid City. We went in on a Wednesday night for my dad's birthday, 3 adults & 4 children. We were promptly seated (right next to the podium where you wait to be seated) and given water and it all went downhill from there. After 15 minutes we got our chips and salsa which the hungry children quickly devoured. After 20 minutes our waitress came by to take our orders, food and a Coke for my dad. After taking our order, that was the last we ever saw of our waitress. After 55 minutes total of waiting for anything, chips & salsa, the Coke, or our food, I asked a nearby waiter if he could check on our food or get the Coke, he promptly ignored us. Another 10 minutes went by, my husband asked the women messing around on their phones at the podium by the front door if we were getting our food or if we should leave. About an hour and a half into waiting, we finally received the Coke and some plates that were slopped together in a hurry like our waitress had never even turned in our order. Our food was cold, small portions, and the rice was undercooked. We were offered more chips & salsa, after we had our food already, but I'm shocked how many employees dropped the ball and completely ignored us the whole time we were there. We did finally see our waitress as we were leaving, she looked pretty out of it and was being told off by multiple other employees.
Water was on the table within 30 seconds of being seated. Drink orders were taken and delivered inside of 2 minutes. We both ordered our meals and a gentleman from the kitchen delivered them piping hot about 10 to 15 minutes later. Our waitress refilled my drink twice and my friend's water at least once. The chips and salsa were replenished AFTER our meal was served.
We asked for queso dip as an appetizer, we had to remind them multiple times and when they finally brought it, it was runny and seemed to be lacking in flavor too. Bummer! How do you ruin cheese dip?
I arrived with a friend on a Friday for lunch. They were relatively busy, but we were seated immediately. Homemade chips and salsa were delivered promptly. Chips were warm, salsa was a bit spicier than what you get elsewhere, which is a good thing.
When our dinner orders arrived, a few of our enchiladas came out as beef instead of chicken, and then when we asked to have the correct meats the waitress rolled her eyes. When they brought the right order, there was literally almost no shredded chicken in the enchilada- we weren’t about to ask for a new plate at this point. 2 out of the 6 plates arrived room temperature/cold and the flavors just were fairly bland.
They just opened, give them a chance. I waited to go so they could work out some kinks and find their groove. We went for lunch today and it was a pleasant experience. The staff were very friendly from start to finish. Our server was very polite and attentive. The food was great! We will be back again. If you had a bad experience, try it again. They seem to have their ducks in a row now.
By the time we were half way through the meal, the place was full-blown busy, yet the waitress checked back twice more. And, by the way, the food was expertly prepared and delicious. My friend and I agreed it was an excellent experience. The Cantina appears to be the perfect place to take in some sports and have an adult beverage. The food and service are great, and I will be back – often.
All in all, it was a horrible dining experience and despite being long time loyal customers to the Guadalajara's in Spearfish, we will NOT be going back nor recommending the location in Rapid City to anybody.
This was our second try at this restaurant and we won’t be coming again.
This is what I hate about social media. If I were to have believed some of the reviews here, I would not have tried Guadalajara's. It's a good thing I didn't believe them.
This was a disappointing experience. First we got chips and salsa and the chips were dark brown and tasted like they had been fried a too long and had a bitter after taste. The salsa was watery and didn’t have much of a distinct flavor.
