Loved in South Dakota for over 40 years & had never stopped at the COSMOS...So glad we did on this last Black Hills Trip...This place is a GEM and a fantastic family experience...especially for those interested in science/physics...FUN, FUN, FUN!! Loved the crowd interaction to demonstrate all the activities. Can't wait to take my Grandaughter here when she's about 5 or older.
this place was totally awesome!! fun for the whole family! it's mind blowing and Sage our tour guide was fantastic! only gave 4 stars because the one downfall was with it being a tour we didn't get much time to try the different things in the cabin. We moved on to next room pretty quick but other then that it was a great time!
Charles was a fun guide. We really liked him, great with the kids, and his name recall was impressive. Been traveling the area and looking for geodes to crack for my rock loving kids. Saw all sorts of set ups for different prices, including one that was simply "put it in a bag and hit with a hammer." I'm glad we stopped for this, not only can you "search" for one in the sand, they were some of the biggest I saw around for a decent price, and you get to work a hydraulic hammer to make a nice break without risking your kid busting it to pieces. Plus the guide, Charles, pointed out the cool features of each kids' geode. One got snowball features, one had several geodes grown together, and another had a really nice big one with deep caverns. I'd recommend going here for the geode cracking if you have rock loving children.
This is a fun quick stop. You can mine for geodes and crack one open. It takes about 15 minutes. They have a 30 minute tour that takes you into a house that messes with gravity. Water goes up instead of down. A tennis ball does not roll when it seems that it should. The whole house is slanted toward one corner and they have level boards that don't look level due to you not being level. They have a gift shop. You spend about 1 hour there.
Cosmo's Mystery Area will keep you questioning Newton's laws for years after your visit! Experience an almost "unworldly" take on gravity, balance, and physics while your tour guide shocks you by making water run uphill. Skeptics can keep busy examining the engineering of the structures involved, but, believe it or not, everyone will have a nice time when they visit Cosmo's. Your kids will be in awe, and you'll all have a head scratching memory that will last you a lifetime.
